City of Meadow Vale and the Area

Meadow Vale is a fifth class city located 15 miles northeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky on the eastern edge of Jefferson County. The Little Goose Creek meanders through a portion of the city before it empties into the Ohio River which is a few miles to the north.

What Is Our Area Like?

Encompassed within the boundaries of the city there is a relatively large shopping center known as Westport Road Plaza. The anchor business for the shopping center is Kroger's which is a part of a large, regional chain of grocery stores. There is also an office of the Jefferson County Clerk in the shopping center as well as a variety of stores. If you're interested in eating, several establishments exist; namely Goose Creek Diner, KFC, Spinelli’s, Wendy’s, Wick’s Pizza, and White Castle.

Meadow Vale is fortunate to have two parks within walking distance. Little Goose Creek runs through the county park on the slopes of the city's southern boundary. The park offers outdoor tennis courts and recreational equipment suitable for children. A major portion of the park sits under the canopy of several trees while the soccer field sit in the open.

Across Hurstbourne Parkway is the state’s only metropolitan park, E.P. “Tom” Sawyer park. The park is set on 400 acres of ground with shaded picnic areas, an airfield for radio-controlled craft, walking and nature trails, an olympic-sized swimming pool, baseball and softball fields, and tennis courts. For nearly 20 years the park has been host to the National Bicycle League's Grand Nationals BMX World Championships. Adjacent to the swimming pool is the multi-purpose gymnasium.

Within the City’s boundaries is Westport Plaza, located at 9400 Westport Road between Goose Creek Road and Hurstbourne Parkway. The property, under management by the McMahan Group, features approximately 250,000 square feet of retail and business space. A separate page at this site lists the business names and telephone numbers of the tenants of Westport Plaza. Of course, other shopping is available at Rolling Hills Plaza in the fifth class city adjacent to Meadow Vale. At the intersection of Hurstbourne Parkway and Westport Road is a 24-hour Walgreens. Further east is Home Depot, Michael's and the Springhurst complex where Meijer, Kohl’s, Office Max, and Target serve as anchor businesses. Some of the area’s favorite restaurants are there as well: Cheddar's, Chick-Fil-A, Steak 'n Shake, Bob Evans, Panera, and Tumbleweed, to name a few.

Zachary Taylor Elementary School, a part of Jefferson County Public Schools, is on the southwest corner of Westport Road and Hurstbourne Parkway. Further west is the Eastside Campus of Portland Christian School at 8509 Westport Road. PCS is a private school serving elementary and secondary students.
